Ain't It Funny How Time Slips Away (And Passes You By)

It flies.  It crawls.
We mark it, waste it, bide it, and race against it.
We all have the same amount of it each day, each week, each month, each year;
but none of us ever think we have enough of it.

Time.

Time is precious.
And it is that because it is short, its fleeting, its uncertain, and once it passes its gone forever.

Let me take some liberty with Paul's words in the New Testament book of Ephesians (chapter 5, beginning with verse 6), and say it this way:
"Be careful how you walk thru life and time, not as unwise people but as wise.  Take whatever time you need to build a good foundation so that when your life really takes off you will be helping God make you...and all of us...into the persons we are meant to be."

Good words, those.

But wow, ain't it funny how quickly time slips away!
And wow, ain't it funny how quickly time passes you by!

If you want to get a sense of the sadness that is the all-too-quick passing of time, you can listen to Counting Crows sing their song, "Washington Square."
Now I live in the shadows where light is electric
And time is a number that rests on a wall.

There are days I feel like I am that rusting old Buick...waiting for the grasses and weeds to hide me from sight altogether.

Ain't it funny how time slips away (and passes you by)?

There are days...

Days when the rust takes over.
When the wheels have almost come off.

All the more reason, I suppose, to take whatever time is needed to put together a strong foundation for the life you will be given to live out.

Be prepared, though, for time to pass you by at some point...for certainly it will.  Its just the way the world is put together, I suppose.
"Be careful how you walk thru life and time, not as unwise people but as wise."
